Unlock a PDF so ChatGPT or Claude can read it

A password-protected PDF cannot be read until it is opened. Remove the password you know in your browser, then turn it into redacted text.

About this tool

If the PDF asks for a password to open, its content is encrypted: no person or program can read the text until it is opened with it. That is why an AI assistant cannot summarize a statement or certificate that arrived protected.

Here you decrypt it with the password you already know, in your browser's memory. What comes out is a copy without the password; the original does not change.

Before pasting it into ChatGPT or Claude, consider whether the assistant needs your name, ID or account number. PDF to Markdown replaces them with placeholders such as [NOMBRE_1] and gives you a map to restore them.

How it works

  1. 01

    Drop the protected PDF.

  2. 02

Type the password you know and download the copy without it.

  3. 03

Take it to PDF to Markdown and redact before pasting it into the assistant.

Questions

Can you remove a password I don't know?
It depends which one. Copy or print restrictions (the permissions password) are removed without knowing it, because the PDF already opens. The password to open it, no: without it the content is encrypted, and we do not offer to crack it.
Do I need to unlock it before converting?
Not in Sırdaş: PDF to Markdown also asks for the password when you drop the file. Unlocking is useful if you want to keep a copy without the password.
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. It only lives in the page's memory while you use it and is not stored.
