About this tool
Before emailing a medical record, a payslip or a contract, it is worth making the file ask for a password to open. That way, if the email ends up in the wrong place, the document cannot be read.
The encryption is AES-256, which Acrobat, Chrome, Preview and any current reader open. You can also remove permissions: no printing, no copying text, no editing. Serious readers respect those permissions, but they are not a strong barrier: what really protects the file is the open password.
Keep the password safe. We do not know it, it is not sent anywhere and there is no way to recover it. Send it through a different channel from the file, for example by message if the PDF goes by email.
